As promised on these pages last week, we’re updating our projected Big Dance seeds each week in TGS Hoops with our full (and final) “Bracketology” update due next week in Issue No. 21. As you can see, we’ve made some changes from last week, in some cases risking how the eventual “quadrant wins” formula looks after the Selection Sunday rinse cycle. At this time, however, we have to wonder just how much damage these teams from the SEC and Big 12 are doing to one another, with their hope that the “quadrant one wins” keep enough of them afloat into Selection Sunday. But many of these entries are struggling at .500 or worse in conference play and we have to ponder how many losses the likes of Texas, Louisville, Oklahoma, and others have to endure before they finally get demoted to the wrong side of the cut line. These entries and a few others have not added many “quality wins” in recent weeks as the losses continue to mount. We thought it was time to reward some a deserving side like St. Bonaventure, and move a couple of surging SEC entries (Mississippi State and LSU) to the edge of the cut line. Though, admittedly, Ben Howland’s Bulldogs and Will Wade’s Tigers are going to need to notch a couple more of those quality wins before the Selection Committee moves them to the safe side.
The bottom line is that there is still time for this list to change over the next two weeks; it remains a fluid situation.
Stay tuned; new full “Bracketology” update next week!
