UL Lafayette @ Iowa State

Play on UL Lafayette

Don’t sleep on the Sun Belt, where several team trends have endured across multiple seasons. Take UL-Lafayette, for example, which opens its 2020 campaign on Saturday at Iowa State. The Ragin’ Cajuns have provided good value from almost the start of the HC Billy Napier era that began in 2018, now standing 16-7-2 vs. the spread their last 25 on the board, not to mention a stellar 7-2-1 against the mark their last ten as an underdog. Though some believe the host Cyclones might actually benefit without the early-season distraction of their annual grudge match vs. Iowa, note that ISU has failed to cover 3 of its last 4 home openers. And, in the Matt Campbell era, the ‘clones have done their best pointspread work as an underdog, not as Ames chalk (just 3-8 their last 11 laying points at home).

Louisiana Tech @ Baylor

Play on Louisiana Tech

We’ve made good use of La Tech in the Tech Play box in recent years, and for good reason. Since HC Skip Holtz made his Ruston debut in 2014, his Bulldogs have been a righteous underdog, standing 19-8-1 getting points that span, which bodes well for the Skips as they travel to Baylor for their 2020 opener on Saturday. Which is why La Tech is again a featured College Coach as Underdog recommendation with Holtz. Correspondingly, Holtz is 13-7-1 vs. the number his last 21 with the Bulldogs away from Joe Aillet Stadium. This will be HC Dave Aranda’s debut for the Bears, and we’ll see if he’s up to reversing some recent negative Baylor trends, such as 2-8 as Waco chalk since 2017, and covers in only 1 of the last 6 hosting non-Big 12 foes.

Clemson @ Wake Forest

Play on Clemson

Wake Forest can be excused for not wanting Clemson to show up Saturday for the 2020 lid-lifter at Winston-Salem. After all, the past two seasons, the Tigers have demolished the Deacs by a combined score of 115-6 while easily covering both numbers. It's a hefty price Clemson is being asked to handle again this week, but that's been de rigueur for the Tigers the past few years, and all Dabo Swinney's bunch has done is record a 16-4-1 spread mark as chalk (often big chalk) away from Death Valley since 2017. That's also why, thanks to Dabo , Clemson is a featured College Coach and Pointspread recommendation this week.
